What are the testing procedures for cylinders?

Sparkling Carbonic follows federally regulated procedures for all cylinder testing. Testing occurs in four stages:

  1. Cylinders are devalved.

  2. A visual inspection is made to search for cracks or other irregularities in the cylinder.

  3. The cylinder is filled with water to test for leaks and excessive expansion.

  4. Once dry, cylinders receive another visual inspection. After this process is complete the cylinders are revalved and stamped. An approved cylinder is a good as a new cylinder and has the same service life as a new cylinder.

Please see our services page go to services page for photos of cyllinders as the go through the reconditioning process.

Wouldn't I be better off purchasing a new cylinder as opposed to reconditioning my existing one?

  • Consider the following: The cost for reconditioning a cylinder is, on average, $18 without a new valve and $30 with a new valve. The cost of a new cylinder is, on average, $120. A reconditioned cylinder has the same service life as a new cylinder.
